Common Conditions

Getting sexual health checks is a part of our health that is often overlooked. This is often due to stigma around the topic. In addition, some sexually transmitted diseases (STIs), such as Chlamydia, may show no symptoms until it is quite advanced. Therefore, it is important that we include sexual health checks as a part of our general health assessments as it helps promote our overall health and wellbeing.

At Bluff Road medical we incorporate sexual health screenings into your general health check. We provide discreet and non-invasive tests to check your sexual health, including blood and urine tests.

Herpes is a common STI, caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV) and can be passed on by skin-to-skin contact during sexual contact.

ALSO KNOWN AS HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS, HIV/AIDS

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) attacks the immune system which makes it difficult for the body to fight infections. HIV can be passed on through the bodily fluids (such as blood, semen, vaginal fluid and anal fluid) of a person who has HIV with a detectable viral load, usually by having sex without a condom or sharing injecting equipment.

Syphilis is a bacterial STI and can be passed on through skin-to skin contact.

Trichomonas is an infection of the genitals and can be passed on during sex without a condom.

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is inflammation or infection of the reproductive system in the pelvis. PID can be caused by STIs such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea and mycoplasma genitalium. PID only affects people with a vagina and uterus.
